School Age Child Care (SACC) provides the highest quality enrichment opportunities in a nurturing and safe environment for children in kindergarten through 5th grade.
Program offerings include before school from 6:30am until the morning bell and after school until 6:00pm. 6:30am to 6:00pm during the Summer Program and Non-School Enrichment Days (NSEDs), and 8:30am to 4:00pm on some Inclement Weather Days.
The School Age Child Care Program is available at Holy Spirit Catholic School and at Rochester public elementary schools where registration numbers will support an operating site.
School Age Child Care is a self supporting program. Program costs are funded with fees paid by registered parents/guardians. Rochester Public Schools Community Education administers the School Age Child Care Program.
Rochester Public Schools School Age Child Care Program will provide a safe, nurturing environment where children can feel they are significant and they belong.
To assure parents/guardians that their children will be in a safe, healthy environment where staff will strive to meet emotional, social, and physical needs.
To create a happy, warm, exciting environment that is inviting, comfortable, flexible, and manageable for the children.
To promote respect for self and others, while responsibilities and social skills are both enhanced and encouraged.
To support a caring staff who show genuine respect for the children, have confidence in each child's potential, and seek to promote the self-esteem of each child.
To provide a variety of developmentally appropriate activities that includes, but is not limited to, arts, crafts, self-directed play, field trips, dramatic play, physical activities (indoor and outdoor), community service, reading , quiet time or offer an environment where homework may be encouraged. Library, Bookmobile, computer lab, and cooking opportunities will be provided as resources are available.
To give individual guidance to children based upon careful observation of each child's needs and in keeping with parent/guardian values and goals.
To support and work with the children's teachers and school administrators in building a stable and consistent team to promote an environment where children may learn and grow.
To accept enrollment to meet the needs of the community, while ensuring the safety and welfare of all children.
Each site is supervised by a Team Leader who directs and guides the staff in general site operation, including communication, challenging behavior, teamwork, scheduling, etc. Team Leaders also serve on various parent/guardian boards/committees, as well as attend meetings and participate in organizations as advocates for youth.
School Age Child Care is staffed with caring people with experience in various fields. Background checks, first aid and CPR training, and continued staff development through workshops and in-services are required of all staff. Each School Age Child Care site is staffed with at least one Program Lead who is responsible for overseeing the operation of the program. Program Assistants are trained to assume Program Lead responsibilities in their absence, and otherwise assume numerous responsibilities for the operation of the site. Program Aides may also be included as part of the site team. They have a very important role of spending most of their time directly with children, however, never remaining alone with them, due to State Guidelines.
Staff to child ratios are 1:7/10 for younger children (kindergarten through 2nd grade) and 1:10/15 or older children (grades 3 through 5). Adjustments may be made according to individual needs.
