Reading Program at Hawthorne

Reading classes are available for both ESL and native speakers of English. The beginning and intermediate reading classes focus on sound-symbol correspondence, spelling, decoding multi-syllabic words, sight words, vocabulary development, and comprehension of short, level-appropriate texts. Intermediate and advanced reading classes focus on vocabulary development, fluency (reading speed), and comprehension strategies for all types of text (long and short, fiction and nonfiction). All classes meet Monday-Thursday, unless otherwise noted.

Prior to beginning a reading class, all students are required to take a reading placement test. Please call (507) 328-4440 to schedule an appointment.
