English Writing
These courses are designed to help adult non-native speakers to write more effectively and read more efficiently. Students study examples of good writing, read excerpts from increasingly difficult texts and practice writing each week -- both in class and for homework. The curriculum is practical and tailored to individual student needs.

All new students need to call (507) 328-4440 to make a placement test appointment.

Intro to Writing

Introduction to Writing focuses on three sentence structures: simple, compound, and complex sentences. Grammar units and parts of speech are also studied each quarter.

Advanced Writing

Advanced Writing concentrates on learning to write different types of paragraphs in an organized and cohesive manner with a minimum of grammar and sentence structure errors. The pre-writing process, self editing skills, and ways to improve vocabulary choices are also included. In addition, students practice writing effective topic sentences and conclusions and study grammar topics that help build better sentence structure.
