Northstar Digital Literacy

Northstar DL

The Northstar Digital Literacy Project defines basic skills needed to perform tasks on computers and online. Learners are assessed on these skills and MUST pass each relevant module with 85% or more, to proceed to take a proctored test.
The basic computer digital literacy standards and assessment modules cover nine main areas: Basic Computer Use, Internet, Windows Operating System (Windows 7), Mac OS X, Email, Microsoft Word, Social Media, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint.

At Hawthorne, we advise students to take the following core modules as a minimum standard: Basic Computer Use, Internet, Windows 7 Operating System, Email and Microsoft Word.

Hawthorne Education Center is a registered Northstar Digital Literacy Test site, where students can learn, takes assessments and take the proctored test.  Only by passing the proctored test with 85% or more can students obtain the Northstar Digital Literacy Certificate.

The Certificate provides a credential for employment.

There is no cost to complete their Northstar Certification.

To register for the Northstar Digital Literacy program and the Open Class at Hawthorne Education Center, students MUST make an appointment.
